In a major show of support from New York City’s public workforce, District Council 37 (DC 37), the city’s largest public employee union, has officially endorsed Khari Edwards for Brooklyn Borough President. The announcement was shared through a press release on April 24, 2025, marking a significant boost to Edwards’ campaign as he vies to represent the interests of Brooklyn residents.

Union Leadership Praises Edwards’ Record

Henry Garrido, Executive Director of DC 37, praised Edwards for his dedication to union families and the borough at large. “Khari Edwards has been a steadfast ally to the members of DC 37, supporting families in need, standing in solidarity with us at rallies, and always answering the call when it matters most,” said Garrido. “His commitment to our shared values and his dedication to the people of Brooklyn are exemplary of the leadership we believe the borough deserves. We’re proud to support his campaign and to help deliver a victory— not just for Khari, but for all Brooklyn residents.”

“A Candidate Who Stays Ready”

Shaun D. Francois I, President of DC 37 and Local 372, emphasized the deeper meaning behind the endorsement, noting Edwards’ consistent engagement with the community. “In the heart of Brooklyn, where dreams meet determination, true leadership finds its voice in Khari Edwards,” Francois said. “In a borough where every block tells a story, they must be heard by a leader who has done the work. This endorsement of Khari Edwards is not just a stamp of approval – it’s a promise to amplify the voices of the people whose rhythm is Brooklyn’s pulse. This is a candidate who stays ready, so he doesn’t have to get ready.”

Lawmakers Join in Support

The press release also featured endorsements from elected officials who have worked closely with Edwards. Assemblymember Latrice Walker offered a personal reflection, stating, “I’ve known Khari Edwards for over 20 years, and throughout that time, he has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to serving his community, Brooklyn, and the entire State of New York. Whether in government or health care, Khari has always led with an unwavering commitment to putting people at the center of every decision. His energy is the catalyst for meaningful service and lasting impact. DC 37 is the heart of New York City—its 150,000+ members are the ones who keep this city running. I’m excited and proud that they’ve chosen to endorse someone who not only understands the work but has always done the work. Khari Edwards is the right choice.”

Echoing that sentiment, Assemblymember Stefani Zinerman added, “As a legislator who partners with labor to deliver equity and opportunity, I know strong leadership when I see it. Khari Edwards has earned the trust of working families because he’s been in the trenches with us—fighting for fair wages, safe communities, and dignity on the job. He’s ready to lead, and I proudly endorse him for Brooklyn Borough President.”

Edwards Responds to Union Support

In response to the endorsement, Edwards said, “I’m honored to have the endorsement of DC 37. Our campaign is about making Brooklyn work for the hardworking members of DC 37 and for all the working people who build, serve and sustain our borough every day.”

The union’s endorsement signals growing momentum for Edwards’ campaign, which focuses on uplifting working families, improving schools, and ensuring that all Brooklynites have a voice in shaping the borough’s future.
